Theaflavins are pigments produced during the fermentation of tea based on the red color of black tea. The Jinggang County Institute of Environmental Health Sciences put a mixture of viruses and theaflavins similar to human Norovirus into cells of rats, cats and pigs, and found that theaflavins prevent viral cell invasion. The effect of the three viruses used in the experiment was reduced to 1/1000.
