Scientists at the University of Southern California have, through extensive research, believe that implanting microchips can help restore partial memory in patients with local brain damage, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease. The British "Daily Mail" recently reported the progress of the research.
Professor Ted Berger, a biomedical engineer and neuroscientist at the University of Southern California, said that researchers use an implantable microchip to replicate the brain's memory. Their experiments on the brains of mice and monkeys showed that animal brain information can be replicated through the electrical signals of the implanted microchip. Moreover, researchers have also concentrated on the hippocampus. The hippocampus is a deep brain tissue that consolidates and integrates short-term memory and long-term memory.
Researchers believe that implanting microchips is expected to help patients with local brain damage, stroke, epilepsy and other diseases. This "memory device" is expected to replicate the patient's memory storage for 5 to 10 years. Their ultimate goal is to use microchips to treat Alzheimer's disease.
