3D printer enters the PLA General Hospital

If you receive a gift on a certain holiday and open it and find it is your own ear or your own face, don't be alarmed. This is not a big American movie, just a small test of 3D printer. At present, in the Kunming General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army (43 Hospital), there is a 3D printer that can replicate any bone model of the patient's body with an error of 0.1%.

This printer can play a three-dimensional model

Printers familiar to the public use text, images, colors, etc. on paper and plastic. And 3D printers can print three-dimensional models, such as cups and bone models.

Walking into a house on the 2nd floor of the Orthopaedic Hospital of the Kunming General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, the first thing to see is a large "iron cabinet" with a length and width of nearly 3 meters. The iron cabinet has a small door that can be opened, and there is a small door next to it. LCD screen and nearly 10 buttons. Luo Haotian, an orthopaedic surgeon at the hospital, said that this is a 3D printer.

On the side of the table, there are also some bone models, there are vertebrae, and there are models that can't name them. There are more than a dozen barrels next to it, all of which are filled with raw materials - photosensitive resin. The working principle of the 3D printer is to reconstruct the data scanned by the CT through software to form a three-dimensional image, which is then produced by the printer in a ratio of 1:1.

Printing a model takes up to 40 minutes

“How long does it take to print a bone model?” the reporter asked curiously. "It usually prints in as little as 40 minutes, even if it is an emergency." Luo Haotian said. The production of the bone model is divided by layers. After reconstructing the data, one side of the bone is the bottom layer, and the layers are poured. This machine uses resin and the knives used are lasers.

“Can you print something to see?” The reporter asked him. "But it can be, it takes a long time to warm up. It's about half an hour." He said the button was turned on, the machine began to make a sound, went to the back of the machine, turned on the laser switch, and began to preheat the laser.

After waiting for 20 minutes, the machine still did not warm up. He said that it takes 5 seconds for each layer of laser to sweep, and a cervical model is about 500 to 700 layers, about 4 to 5 hours. The model produced has an error of 0.1%. In addition, the length of the production time is also related to the size of the model. If the model is large, the surface burned by laser curing will be large and the time will be longer.
