Ministry of Agriculture: Irrational fertilization still exists

A few days ago, the Ministry of Agriculture reported the first survey of arable land in the country in 30 years. According to the relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture, a survey of cultivated soil nutrients in 2498 project counties (fields) found that there was a major common problem in cultivated land throughout the country. In some areas, excessive fertilization, blind fertilization, and low fertilizer utilization were observed.

In order to reduce irrational fertilization, the Ministry of Agriculture issued the “Tripartite Formulations and Fertilizer Recommendations for the Three Main Grain Crops of Wheat, Maize, and Rice (2013)” and proposed 14 major formulas for the three major food crops.

Professor Zhang Fusuo, head of the Expert Team for Soil Testing and Fertilizing Technology of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that according to calculations, through the comprehensive application of soil testing, formula fertilization and large-formulation technologies, annual savings of 1.2 million tons of nitrogen fertilizers will be saved in major maize, wheat, and rice production areas in China. 980,000 tons and 780,000 tons, meanwhile, can increase corn, wheat and rice production by 78 billion kilograms, 28 billion kilograms and 50 billion kilograms, which will provide strong support for national food security.
