Apple encourages users to donate organs: it can be registered directly through the iOS 10 Health App Health
According to technology website CNet, Apple hopes to make it easier for users to donate organs. The company announced on Tuesday that Health Apps Health in iOS 10 will offer new features that allow users to directly register organ donation information.
The Medical ID feature in the Health app tracks the user's medical and health information, and in the future it will allow users to register themselves as donors of body organs such as the eyeball. With the iPhone and iPad, registration information is uploaded directly to the registration agency of the US Life Donation Organization (Donate Life America).
Launched in 2014 with iOS 8, the Health app helps users monitor their health information closely, but its functionality is not just about tracking users' daily data. Adding quick and easy features shows that the app doesn't have to be overly complicated to be very useful.
According to the Associated Press, to become an organ donor, you simply click on a registration button for the Health app. Then click another button to fill in the specific donation information. After the registration is completed, Apple will also add the user's identity to the "emergency notification" column, which can be displayed even when the phone is locked.
According to Apple, more than 120,000 Americans are currently transplanting organs and one more every 10 minutes. David Fleming, president and CEO of the American Life Donation Organization, said that the demand for transplanted organs is far greater than supply, which leads to the death of a patient who needs to transplant organs every hour in the United States. Fleming also said that an organ donor can save up to eight patients.
The new feature currently only supports the developer beta iOS 10, which will become more popular once the beta version of iOS 10 is released. iOS 10 will be officially launched this fall.
