Recently, Prof. Ge Junbo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Department of Cardiology of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, made a special report at the Euro-PCR conference in Paris, France, revealing that China's self-developed fully degradable stent is about to enter clinical trials.
After successfully developing the world's first biodegradable coated drug stent, Ge Junbo's team worked hard for three years and successfully developed a new generation of domestically produced fully degradable stent "Xinsorb" in cooperation with related companies. The stent is constructed by a polymer polylactic acid to release a drug release platform, which can be completely degraded and absorbed within 2-3 years. Different from the traditional metal drug stent, the design concept is to make the stenotic blood vessels mechanically support for a period of time after the stent is implanted, and release the drug to prevent restenosis. Then the stent is slowly degraded and completely absorbed by the tissue. The vascular structure and the systolic function completely return to the natural state.
It is understood that the "Xinsorb" stent has recently passed the approval of the ethics committee and will soon be the first to conduct clinical trials in China. Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital will become the first hospital in China to carry out clinical research on fully degradable stents. The research and development of domestically produced fully degradable stents will promote the pace of independent innovation of cardiovascular medical devices in China.
