Apple is secretly developing medical devices that monitor cardiovascular disease

But e-mail between its executives and the FDA reveals that the tech giant has made new progress in entering personal hygiene equipment, but has been working hard to keep it secret and not let the public know that they are in contact with the regulator.

These emails were requested by MobiHealthNews through the Freedom of Information Act request, indicating that Apple has communicated regularly with the FDA over the past three years. In 2013, a meeting between the two organizations sparked rumors that hardware manufacturers are developing medical devices.

In particular, the latest e-mail indicates that Apple has been developing an app for diagnosing Parkinson's disease, as well as some forms of cardiovascular monitoring devices.

Apple has combined some of the methods of monitoring Parkinson's disease with the Carekit framework. The latter is an application developed jointly by Sage Bionetworks and the University of Rochester. It uses sensors to measure human motion, voice analysis through a microphone, and screen tests to assess response and agility.

An email from Apple's Divya Nag to FDA's deputy director of digital health, Bakul Patel, shows that the FDA has been actively involved in the application preparation process. The e-mail description said that a meeting would be scheduled, "Discussing telemedicine or remote monitoring and ... diagnostic applications in Parkinson's cases," added that the company tried to know "when the meeting started, did the FDA have some Things you want to know."
