“Our initial idea was very simple. It was to design an innovative product to solve the current smog problem.” As the team leader and the second-year student of biomedical engineering at Shanghai Health College, Shen Jiayi said that some characteristics of ultrasound were discovered. After continuously debugging the ultrasonic frequency, the experiment finally proved this idea. "The indoor air with a PM2.5 value of about 60 or 70 is directly purified by water. The PM2.5 value can be reduced to more than 20, and after ultrasonication, the minimum can be reduced to 1." Shen Jiayi said.
Although the experiment verified the feasibility of the idea and the cost of the work was not high, the team also admitted that further research is needed on the efficiency of air purification and the noise generated by the air pump.
