How to manage fattening pigs

Winter is the key period for rearing finishing pigs. It is the best time for pork prices, but it is the period with the worst feeding environment, the greatest harm, and the most difficult period of the year. If the rearing and management techniques fail to keep pace, the pigs will not only fall short, but will fall out. Therefore, we must vigorously improve the feeding environment in the winter and conduct scientific breeding.

Choose hybrid pigs

Binary or three-way hybrids of elite boars and local sows are used to produce excellent crossbred pigs for fattening. The good breed pigs have a fast growing speed and good meat quality. They slaughtered 7 days to 10 days earlier than the native pigs, and have high feed returns and considerable economic benefits. Choosing good breeds is the key to rearing finishing pigs. If the variety is not good, it not only grows slowly but also has poor meat quality and low feed utilization.

Enough living space

Good growth of pigs requires sufficient living space, and depending on the individual size and use of the pig, the stocking density and the housing space are determined. The stocking density should be appropriate, not too crowded, otherwise it is not conducive to the growth of pigs, but too little space is wasted. Usually the pens must have an eating area, a rest area and a living area. The feeding area is to meet the required feeding area for all pigs to feed at the same time. The rest area must meet the space required for all pigs to lie on their side.

Circles should be regularly disinfected

Pighouses, foodstuffs, etc. should be thoroughly cleaned, rinsed and sterilized before the finishing pigs enter the lap. The walls are painted with 2% caustic soda solution after spraying to completely kill the pathogenic microorganisms and prevent the infection of animal diseases. During the rearing period, it is necessary to regularly disinfect the pens and the surrounding environment. The selected disinfecting drugs are broad-spectrum, inexpensive, easy to use, tasteless, and non-irritating and corrosive. Disinfectant drugs should be replaced frequently in order to achieve complete elimination of pathogens.

Deworming pigs

Pigs are most susceptible to parasitic diseases during the rearing period and affect pig growth. Deworming can be used levamisole or ivermectin, etc., should be fed in the morning fasting. During the period of deworming, the pig's excrement and its contaminants should be collected in time for accumulation and fermentation to prevent re-infection.

Feed nutrition should be comprehensive

In cold weather in winter, the energy level of the diet can be gradually increased in order to improve the cold-resistance and weight gain rate of finishing pigs. The protein level can be increased to 17.5% accordingly, before and after the high and low, can obtain higher daily weight gain. In addition, the actual amount of minerals and vitamins needed for finishing pigs must be met. It is best to use a straight-line fattening method for finishing pigs, and feed nutrient-rich feeds from weaning to slaughter so as to give full play to its growth potential, make it possible to slaughter as soon as possible, and shorten the time for fattening. In management, it is necessary to use darker light and appropriately reduce the amount of movement of pigs. Pay attention to the method of feeding, especially in the late period of fattening, more than an unlimited amount of feeding, preferably a small number of times, to prevent feed waste, while conducive to fat deposition and weight gain. Pigs eat much more quickly, and they can shorten the fattening period. If it is found that fattening pigs have increased feed intake and have a higher slaughter rate, do not raise them again and they should be slaughtered at the right time.

Provide sufficient drinking water

In cold weather in winter, the amount of water consumed by pigs is reduced relative to summer, but the supply of drinking water to pigs cannot be ignored. On conditional farms, it is best to supply enough warm water to the pigs to reduce the irritation caused by too cold water.

Grasping insulation

The winter in the north is cold and long. It is unfavorable for raising pigs. Grasping insulation is the guarantee for raising pigs in winter. The insulation ring shall be repaired, the ceiling shall be thickened, the north wall shall be enclosed, the doors and windows shall be closed, and the straw curtain shall be hung at night. The conditional breeding farm may be equipped with a holding furnace to try to reduce the temperature difference between day and night, to promote the rapid weight gain of pigs, and to improve the winter of finishing pigs. Maintain effect.
