On September 22, the China National Gene Bank, headquartered in Shenzhen, officially opened today. This is the fourth national gene bank after the United States, Japan and the European Union. It is by far the largest gene bank in the world.

Development origin

In January 2011, the National Development and Reform Commission approved Shenzhen to rely on the Huada Gene Research Institute to form a national gene bank. In October of the same year, the National Gene Bank Construction Program was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the National Health and Family Planning Commission. The National Gene Bank Base is located in the “Hetangzi” plot in Xiasha District, Dapeng Street, Dapeng New District, Shenzhen. The first phase construction area is 47,500 square meters.
